5Aftermarket filter better than factory  Sep 12, 2009 By P. Corson
K&N are known for making fortified oil filters, but I didn't think there was much they could do to improve the pleated paper insert that goes into the permanent metal oil filter housing on my 4 cyl. Mazda 6.

Yet, the first improvement I noticed were the end caps that hold the pleats in place. The Mazda factory filter, and all aftermarket filters I have tried so far, have rubber discs that are glued to the edges of the pleats.

K&N have taken a plastic and dipped both ends of the pleats, embedding the paper into both end caps. The plastic is pliable and contains a bead for a good seal. All other filters use a disc of mesh around the center hole on both ends.

I don't have the means to perform micron analysis to determine how much or how little dirt gets through the filter. But I will be able to tell come next oil change whether this filter has fractured and collapsed along the paper folds, as I have noticed with other brands.

K&N include both O-rings, as do all other suppliers of this filter. I do not see any particular quality difference in these components.

Will update in about 2,000 miles.

Using Mobil 1 synthetic 5W-20, combinaton of high-speed and in-town traffic.

5No other filter works better  Feb 02, 2011 By Mazdaspeed 6 owner
I've tried several filters in my MS6 and none will fit as well as this one. All the filters I've tried, Fram, STP, MobilOne and they all are crushed when installed reducing the filters performance and increasing the chance of failure. The K&N filter also has tight and evenly spaced pleats for maximum filtering surface and flow. Bottomline is it works as intended; it fits properly, it filters the oil, and when its used up and removed it doesn't come out in a twisted mess that looks like it may just have been a wad of paper towels stuck in the filter housing.

5Good K&N quality, Good Amazon.com price  Sep 30, 2008 By James W. Mendenhall
I purchased this filter for my Mazda 3 2.3 L. Fit and finish were great, and the item appeared to be constructed much better than the OEM Mazda/Ford filters. Both gaskets were included with the filter. Amazon.com had a great price, and I didn't have to hassle with finding a car parts store that carried this rather obscure K&N filter.

5Best filter for MS3 yet!  Jan 11, 2011 By Chad Sparks "shpanky"
I've tried almost every single oil filter for the Mazdaspeed 2.3l Turbo cars out there and this one is by far and away the best there is. The pleats are always exactly spaced and perfectly uniform. It has awesome end caps and every time I take it out, it has never had a single solitary fail point. Believe me, there is no better filter out there for Mazdaspeeds. That includes the much more expensive Mobil 1 Extended Performance filter.

5Great Replacement for OEM  Jan 19, 2011 By Jessie
We started using this filter in our '06 Mazda 6i after the OEM filter showed significant signs of distress & wear. We have used K&N filters for our last several oil changes and it always looks like new. In the beginning we used Mobil 1 Extended Life oil and it went 15,000 miles on that oil change with no problems. We now use G-Oil Green Earth Technologies 1155 G-Oil 5W-30 Green Motor Oil - 1 Quart, Pack of 6 with the same results. Amazon seems to have the lowest price I've found.
