| |
| | Description | Red Line Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluids are designed to provide excellent low-temperature shiftability and improved thermal stability over petroleum ATFs. These fluids provide a much lower viscosity at cold temperatures for quicker shifting and their balanced frictional characteristics provide smooth and consistent shifts over extended drain intervals. The superior stability compared to petroleum ATFs also allow high-temperature operation without varnishing valves and clutches, which leads to transmission failure. | |

works as advertised Mar 04, 2011
By lluangrath Put this in my '00 Audi S4 and the car shifts alot smoother. Probably will buy the 12 pack to get older stuff out but there IS noticable improvement in the transmission. It does meet Audi esso LT71141 requirements so you should be ok putting it in the Audi ZF transmissions.
Red Line D4 Automatic Transmission Fluid Feb 05, 2012
By M. Clemente I have been using the Red Line D4 for all my automatic vehicles, past and present.
It has provided smooth shifting and protection for the vehicles I have used.
Even my current 218k+ '97 Honda Accord.
Huge difference from what was in the car when I bought it used til I used the Red Line.
I Use D4 in my 2 Previas and my Mustang Feb 03, 2012

I've been using D4 in my 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 since upgrading to an AOD from the original FMX. I had a stock of Valvoline Dexron/Mercon ATF originally for my 1991 Toyota Previa LE and changed the fluid frequently as possible. I then bought my uncle's (who is now deceased) 1995 Previa LE S/C and knowing him he never changed the fluid in the 16 and half years (from when it was new). In the 95 Previa I initially used the stock of Valvoline ATF I have and within two weeks it started to shudder because it circulated the fluid around and turned black in the pan. I changed the fluid again this time with 1 quart of Redline D4 and my remaining 2 quarts of Valvoline. The transmission feel has improved but I have to check periodically if the fluid has turned black from my uncle's poor maintainance.

Expensive, but will pay for itself! Sep 04, 2009

I was skeptical that a synthetic ATF would make that much difference in my fiancé's 2003 Protege5 with 85k miles, but it shifts like new again AND fuel economy has gone up from around 29.5 MPG average to ~31 MPG. The difference in fuel economy alone will pay off the cost of the fluid and filter well before changing it again in another 30k.
About a year ago I had done a full flush with cheap Wal-Mart fluid in preparation for putting synthetic in since the previous owner had never changed the fluid. It shifted progressively harder the longer it was in. I had waited longer than I intended, and I should have done this a LONG time ago in both our cars.
On a P5, you can just drain the fluid (approx 3 quarts) and replace or do a full flush (buy 8 quarts and a new filter) by starting the engine, allowing half a quart out at a time, refilling, and repeating until you get clean fluid. I chose the latter. If you've even remotely comfortable with a wrench, for about $100 you can make your transmission shift like it should have right off the lot!

Premium Synthetic ATF Oct 16, 2011
By keyser soze Your car will not explode if you do not use the car manufacturers specific fluid. They want you to spend more moolah on the manufacturers ridiculously expensive ATF. Just make sure it "meets" the spec for the recommended fluid. In my case it met both the BMW spec and the Honda spec for transmission fluid so I did a drain and fill on both vehicles and I noticed improvement in smoother shifting. The Redline is 100% synthetic whereas the BMW AND original honda fluid were not (although the newer improved honda fluid now is 100% synthetic maybe due to the higher failure rate of their trannys). I will do 2 more drain and fills before winter to get 90% new fluid in. You can never get 100% unless a fluid exchange is done with a flush machine but this more risky. If done incorrectly it can mess up your transmission-$$$. Just about any decent mechanic will tell you 3 drain and refills is much more safer. Nevertheless the REDLINE D4 is a GREAT PRODUCT. All the enthusiast forums are equally as positive as me. Do some research and you will agree.
